"You Shall be called Hephzibah, for the Lord delights in You..." (Isaiah 62:4)

The Hephzibah Ministry was founded in 1893 by women as a training school for women who desired to be involved in Christian ministry both in New York City and the world at large. Many of these women became missionaries in other countries. In the training, everything was done to bring about spiritual development, such as formal courses of Bible Study, conferences, individual and group instruction in practical matters, etc. Christian leaders from many parts of the world were brought to help shape these early handmaidens of the Lord.

Great emphasis then and now is given to prayer. The Hephzibah Ministry is both evangelical and non-denominational. It has been in the center of sharing God's love in practical ways in New York City and known as a Bible Teaching Center. The word Hephzibah is from Scripture, found in Isaiah 62:4, and means "you shall be called Hephzibah, for the Lord delights in you."

Over the years, God has used this little ministry for His purposes, as the Board of Trustees and staff seek His will in all matters. He has used Hephzibah House in the lives of people...not only from the USA, but internationals from everywhere, students and otherwise. One of our callings and His work through us has been to develop believers into faithful and fruitful servants of His, both women and men.

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Hephzibah Ministry a book was written covering some of the development from 1893 to 1993. Of course, one hundred years is a very long time, so there had to be some things not made a part of the book.

In 2009, after much research, another book was written about the 27 years of ministry (1890-1917) of women...who used the name Young Ladies Christian League. We entitled this book "And It Came To Pass"...because out of this group of women, in 1893, Hephzibah House was born. This is an amazing story of God's work through those women who said of themselves, "We are out and out for God."

Both of these books are available through Hephzibah House, if you would like to phone for information. (2009 Hephzibah House)
